How to answer “Tell me about yourself” without sounding like a robot

The short answer

Answer “Tell me about yourself” in three lines: what you are doing right now, one moment that proves it, and why this role. Not a list of hobbies. One story. After a whole day of introductions, the story is the one the panel remembers.

The robot answer

“My name is Rahul. I am from Ambala. My hobbies are reading books and listening to music.” The panel has heard that all day. It is the same answer from the same videos, and it makes every student sound the same.

The three-line answer

Line one: what you are doing right now. Line two: one moment that proves it, a project, a decision, a small win. Line three: why this role. Keep it short enough that they can ask you about any line.

Why a story beats a list

You cleared the test for this moment. A list is forgettable. One story gives the panel something to follow up on, so the interview becomes a conversation.

Try this next time
  1. Write your three lines.
  2. Say them out loud twice.
  3. Check that line two is a moment, not a trait.

Common questions
How long should my answer to “Tell me about yourself” be?

Around sixty to ninety seconds is plenty. Three short lines are enough.

Should I mention hobbies?

Only if one connects to the role. Otherwise a single story that proves your strength is more memorable.
