How to become the student the interview panel loves talking to

By Yogesh Pandey · 26 October 2026 · 2 min read

The short answer

Be the one real conversation in the panel’s day. Give one real example with a number, then ask one question back, like “Would you like to know how I fixed it?” Every other student walks in with the same memorised answers and the same “yes sir, thank you sir”.

What the panel hears all day

“My strength is hard work.” “My weakness is perfectionism.” The panel members have heard it from every student since morning. They get bored too.

What to do instead

Give one real example, with a number. “I cut our event cost by 18% by moving the venue.” Then ask one question back: “Would you like to know how I fixed it?” The question turns your answer into a conversation.

The polite copy

Every student arrives as a polite copy: the same memorised answers, said the same way. You do not need a trick to stand out. You need to sound like a person.

Try this next time
  1. Pick one real example with a number.
  2. Practise saying it in under a minute.
  3. End it with one question back to the panel.

Common questions
What should I say instead of “my strength is hard work”?

Give one concrete example with a number that shows it, then ask if they want to hear how you did it.

Is asking the panel a question risky?

No. A short, relevant question invites conversation, and conversations are remembered more than answers.
